The Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) offers a distinguished doctoral program in Economics, building on the combined expertise of four economics departments and one of Germany’s leading economic research institutes. Advanced coursework, appropriate guidance, a cooperative learning environment, and an extensive research network and infrastructure are geared to support our students in conducting first-rate research and our graduates in obtaining excellent positions in academia and in the private sector. During the admission process, entrants are paired with (potential primary) supervisors from our more than 45 faculty members, facilitating a close match between interests and supervision capacity, and thus optimal supervision from the start.
All accepted students are offered a one-year scholarship of €1500 per month or equivalent teaching and research assistant position for the first year (course phase) and subsequent financing for a minimum of three years, which may also be in the form of a scholarship or in the form of research and teaching assistant positions (TV-L E13), financed by the RWI, one of the universities, or via third-party funding (such as the RTG).
