starting on 01.04.2024 or at the earliest possible date. The position is limited to 3 years, with the possibility of an extension.
The long-term project of the Thailand Vietnam Socio-Economic Panel (TVSEP) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) (see: https://www.TVSEP.de). It is a unique and comprehensive primary data project that started in 2006 and includes up to 8 waves of data on about 4,400 rural households in 440 villages in Thailand and Vietnam. Two further waves of the household panel and one additional wave of migrants are to be collected in the following three years. TVSEP promotes research on
topics such as the long-term consequences of shocks, migration, and rural
transformation.
Responsibilities and duties
Tasks include writing a doctoral thesis based on the long-term project TVSEP; support of the primary data collection in Thailand and Vietnam (including travel); assisting the cleaning and harmonization activities of up to 10 waves of panel data; presenting research results at international conferences and writing and submitting articles to leading academic journals.
Employment conditions
Prerequisite is a completed university science degree in economics, agricultural economics or related fields. In addition, the applicant has excellent knowledge of econometrics, panel data analyses and the statistical software Stata. Very good written and spoken English skills are required (knowledge of German, Thai or Vietnamese is an advantage). A strong interest in research on topics of rural transformation, climate change, the environment, migration or globalization is required, as is flexibility, initiative and teamwork in an international research team.
