PhD Students – Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation at Vienna University of Economics and Business
The DIBT – Doctoral Program in International Business Taxation at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business offers an outstanding, three-year PhD program designed for exceptional students from around the world. DIBT focuses on interdisciplinary research and training, combining public finance, international tax law, and cross-border tax management to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of international business taxation. All courses are taught in English.
CONTENT AND STRUCTURE: The DIBT is structured to provide a solid foundation for interdisciplinary research:
– Year 1: Intensive courses to develop fundamental knowledge for research in both specific and interdisciplinary contexts.
– Years 2 & 3: Seminars on taxation perspectives, research stay abroad, optional workshops, and especially dedicated thesis work, all complemented by a continuous research seminar.
QUALIFICATION PROFILE AND CAREER PROSPECTS: DIBT provides the opportunity to conduct research in the following areas:
– Determination of taxable profit
– Locational decisions
– International coordination of business taxation
– Business taxation, tax administrations, enforcement and compliance
FACULTY: DIBT is led by a distinguished faculty of internationally renowned scholars who are leaders in their respective fields. Their expertise and commitment to interdisciplinary research ensure the highest standards of academic training and mentorship. Visiting professors from around the world also contribute to the rich academic environment of the program.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Admission is highly selective, with limited spots available. Accepted students will benefit from tuition fee waivers and excellent research conditions. Additionally, a limited number of employment contracts will be available, offering a salary of approximately €2,650 per month (before tax and social/medical deductions). APPLICATION PROCEDURE: The program is open to applicants worldwide, holding a master’s or equivalent degree in law, business, economics, or psychology. Candidates from other disciplines who have a sufficient background in taxation are also welcome to apply.
