The Department of Economics, School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, invites applications for up to six fully funded PhD positions (“doktorandtjänster”) in Economics, starting September 1, 2026.
The PhD program is a 5-year full-time program, leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics.
During the first two years, students complete core and field courses in economic theory and empirical methods. The remaining years are devoted to independent research, thesis writing, teaching, and seminar participation.
PhD students are fully financed and employed with a doctoral position, including salary and full social security benefits under the Swedish public-sector system.
Research areas include (but are not limited to):
Labor, Environmental, Development, Health, Behavioral, and Financial Economics.
Eligibility
Applicants should normally hold a Master’s degree in Economics or a related field (e.g. finance, statistics).
Strong background in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Econometrics is highly valued.
