The Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) at the University of Mannheim offers excellent opportunities for the most qualified students in business and economics with strong quantitative skills and enthusiasm for research to pursue a full-time PhD Program at the Center for Doctoral Studies in Business (CDSB) or Center for Doctoral Studies in Economics (CDSE) starting in September 2025.
The internationally competitive doctoral programs enrols up to 40 students each year with 40% international students in the student body.

DOCTORAL DEGREE IN MANAGEMENT: Our Management Ph.D. program spans diverse research domains, including Strategy, Human Resources, Organization Theory, Organization Behaviour, Entrepreneurship, and Public- and Non-Profit Management. It equips students with core competencies in analytical and empirical research methods. Additionally, students can enrol in courses that elucidate contemporary tools like machine learning and Natural Language Processing, integral to the prevailing methodological requirements in management research. We provide access to expansive datasets essential for addressing relevant research questions, coupled with opportunities for data collection through experiments (lab, field, online) or surveys.
