Description of PhD research project
This dissertation examines how electricity pricing affects household energy behavior and affordability in a developing urban economy. It analyzes behavioral responses to nonlinear tariffs, the impact of energy-efficiency investments on household energy burden, and households’ perceptions of reasonable electricity bills. Using matched household survey and electricity billing data from Ho Chi Minh City, the study applies behavioral demand modeling and econometric methods to estimate demand responses and distributional effects. The findings provide evidence on how pricing policies and efficiency investments shape energy affordability in developing economies.
